Use Social Media for Unity and Development, Not Division – Dr. Ahmad Urges Ningi Emirate Youth

Social media has been described as a tool for unity, development, and constructive engagement, not a platform for insults and division.

This was made by a lecturer at the Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Technology, Ningi, Dr. Ahmad Abdullahi at the Facebook Connect, Ningi Emirate Branch.

Speaking during the Facebook Connect event organized by the Ningi Emirate branch, Dr. Abdullahi emphasized the powerful role social media can play in promoting social interaction, mutual cooperation, and unity among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups.

He stressed that social media is not a space to castigate or abuse political leaders and public figures, Instead, it should be used to correct wrongdoings, demand accountability, and inspire positive change in society.

Dr. Abdullahi challenged social media users within the Ningi Emirate to use their platforms to address long-standing issues such as poor road networks, lack of safe drinking water, and inadequate infrastructure challenges that have persisted since the creation of Ningi Local Government Area in 1976.

He lamented that, It is disheartening that while Lagos, which was created the same year as Ningi, has developed into a state with massive infrastructure, Ningi continues to lag behind.

He also expressed disappointment with the performance of representatives from the emirate at various levels of government, urging them to prioritize the development of their communities and live up to their responsibilities.

According to Dr. Abdullahi, the current administration under Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad is the first in years to initiate meaningful development projects, especially in road construction within the Emirate. He called on representatives to build on this progress.

The seasoned academic further advised social media influencers and handlers in Ningi Emirate to stop spreading disunity among political leaders and instead work towards holding them accountable and fostering collaboration for the common good.

He urged users to learn the basics of communication ethics to avoid defamation and to effectively advocate for the voiceless in their communities.

Dr Abdullahi advised the participants to focus their discussions on issues that will bring collective benefits to the entire Ningi Emirate rather than promoting personal or political agendas.

Participants at the Facebook Connect event expressed optimism and pledged to use social media more responsibly to promote good governance and community development.
