The Chairman of Tafawa Balewa Local Government, Alhaji Samaila Wakili, has called on health workers and residents of Bar community to safeguard the newly renovated Bar-Bununu maternity clinic against vandalism.
The Chairman made the call during the formal handing over of the primary healthcare facility, renovated by Alhaji Ya’u Bawa Sarkin Arewan Bar, the Deputy Accountant General of Bauchi State.
Represented by the Head of Administration of the council, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammad, stressed that protecting the facility is a collective responsibility of both staff and the host community, noting that such efforts would justify the significant investment made by government and the benefactor.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
Alhaji Yunusa also encouraged community members to patronise the clinic and avoid seeking treatment from unqualified medical vendors, warning of the dangers associated with improper diagnosis and care.
He disclosed plans by the council to introduce allowances for volunteer staff and to pursue the fencing of the facility.
In her remarks, the Director of Primary Healthcare in the local government, Hajiya Maryam Hashimu, commended Alhaji Ya’u Bawa for his commitment to community development, noting that the renovation would enhance healthcare delivery.
She, however, appealed for additional support, including provision of equipment, curtains for privacy in the labour room, and deployment of more qualified health personnel.
Earlier, the benefactor, Alhaji Ya’u Bawa Sarkin Arewan Bar, represented by the project overseer, Hussaini Aliyu Bar, said the renovation was motivated by his desire to improve the health standard of his community.
The project included the refurbishment of the clinic, construction of two toilets, and provision of mattresses and equipment, as part of efforts to support government initiatives on improved healthcare and sanitation.
