A reknown Professor of Media Studies, Umaru Pate has emerged the Pioneer National President of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB)
Chairman of the election Committee, who was a former National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Director General, Engineer Yomi Bolanrinwa announced the result after the conduct of the election held at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
Professor Pate became the pioneer SNB President by scoring 231 against his opponent, a former Zonal Director of NBC Mr. Okoduwa Matthew Eigbobor, who scored 12 votes.
Other seven positions of the Society were emerged unopposed.
Speaking after the inauguration, Professor Pate, thanked members of SNB for finding his team worthy to lead the professional body and promised to strive and take it to greater height.
Professor Umaru Pate (the Kaigamma of Adamawa) is a Professor of Media and Society and the current Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere in Gombe State.
SNB is a new national body founded under the supervision of Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON) as a mother of all professional bodies in Broadcasting industry and Academics from Mass Communication background to foster professionalism and unity of purpose among broadcasters and scholars of media studies.
Highpoint of the event was presentation of award for icons of Broadcasting in Nigeria living and posthumous as well as to friends of media industry chaired by the Minister of Information and national orientation Alhaji Ibrahim Idris Malagi.
