L-PRES Project Targets Livestock Revolution Across 20 States with $500M World Bank Support

The Technical Operations Manager of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project, Mr. Wasiu Adeoye, has emphasized the importance of a supportive environment for the success of Nigeria’s livestock value chain under the World Bank-assisted initiative.

Speaking on the second day of the L-PRES Technical Support Mission held at Maryama Suites and Hotel in Bauchi, Mr. Adeoye called on experts to identify and focus on areas with strong potential in dairy and beef production to boost livestock farming.

He noted that the $500 million provided by the World Bank for the implementation of L-PRES must deliver tangible results across the 20 participating states, saying the funding is a significant investment in Nigeria’s agricultural future, and must ensure that it translates into real improvements for livestock farmers.

Mr. Adeoye stressed the importance of registering all livestock farmers in the beneficiary states to ensure they fully benefit from the program. He also advised state offices to prioritize training for existing livestock clusters, particularly in artificial insemination (AI) technologies, to enhance breed quality and overall productivity.

The Technical Operation Manager added that Improving the livestock value chain and enhancing breed development must be a priority, by avoiding political sentiments and focus on delivering results that truly impact the lives of farmers.

He urged technical operation officers and livestock value chain officers from the Bauchi, Gombe, and Plateau L-PRES offices to clearly outline their expectations during the technical sessions, so actionable plans can be developed to support the project’s success.

Mr Adeoye, also lamented that the L-PRES project is aims to transform Nigeria’s livestock sector by increasing productivity, resilience, and commercialization while supporting rural livelihoods.
