Katagum LGA Backs Forest De-Reservation to Boost Security and Food Production

The Katagum Local Government has reaffirmed that the de-reservation of forest reserves remains a strategic measure to address insecurity and food shortages in the area.

The Executive Chairman, Hon. Yusuf Babayo Zaki, made this known while leading members of the Committee on Farmland Distribution in De-Reserved Forests on an inspection tour of Dagaro and Jambure De-Reserved Forests.

The visit was aimed at assessing the status of land allocations to beneficiaries.

Hon. Zaki commended the State Government for initiating the de-reservation policy, describing it as a timely intervention to enhance agricultural productivity and improve security.

He urged beneficiaries to make proper and productive use of the allocated lands to ensure that the objectives of the initiative are fully realized.

Speaking on the outcome of the visit, the Chairman of the Committee, Comrade Sale Umar Misau, praised Katagum Local Government for its transparent and orderly approach to the allocation process.

He noted that the council distinguished itself as the only local government that waited for the committee’s arrival before commencing the exercise.

Comrade Misau further directed that all encroached areas within the de-reserved forests must be reclaimed before any additional allocations are carried out, stressing the importance of maintaining due process and fairness in the exercise.

The inspection underscores the council’s commitment to ensuring that the de-reservation initiative effectively contributes to improved security and sustainable food production in the region.
