Governor Bala Seeks ECOWAS Bank Partnership to Boost Bauchi’s Infrastructure

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has paid a courtesy visit to the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) in Lomé, Togo.

The visit was part of his ongoing efforts to secure international financing for key infrastructural and economic development projects in the state.

Mohammed’s delegation comprising the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman; the Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Hammayo; the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Yakubu Adamu; and Hon. Mansur Manu Soro, Chief Economic Adviser, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu, among others were warmly received by the President of EBID, Dr. George Agyekum Donkor, alongside members of the Bank’s Executive Management.

This follows Bauchi State’s formal application to EBID for financial support aimed at accelerating infrastructure, renewable energy, and agricultural development. Under the arrangement, the state is set to receive $82 million shortly for major road infrastructure projects, while an additional $68 million for renewable energy and smart agriculture initiatives will be accessed at a later phase. Together, the funds form part of the $150 million approved by the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s external borrowing plan for Bauchi State.

Speaking, Governor Mohammed described Bauchi as the gateway to the North-East region, endowed with vast arable land, mineral resources, and a conducive environment for investment. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent resource management, qualities that have earned Bauchi national recognition for effective governance.

On his part, EBID President Dr. George Donkor commended Governor Mohammed’s foresight, visionary leadership and integrity, noting that the Bank was aware of his impressive record long before he became governor. He assured of EBID’s readiness to collaborate with Bauchi State in financing critical development projects that align with the Bank’s regional growth objectives.
