The Georgetown Global Health Nigeria has organized sensitisation and awareness Programme against violence and other perceived threats experienced by women in the society.
The programme which held in Azare, was also to celebrate 16 days of activism of the organization to advocate for women’s rights and their inclusive participation in decision making.
The event titled “Activism Against Gender Based Violence towards Beijing+30”, invited various stakeholders including officials from partner organisations, social welfare officers, judiciary staff and religious leaders to address these critical issues of public importance.
The officer in charge of Gender Based Violence of the organization, Ms. Marry Emmanuel explained that women and girls are part of marginalized groups that experienced violence at a particular point, hence the need for sensitisation to end these perceived harmful practices in the society.
Ms. Emmanuel noted that part of their messages was to ensure 35% quota for women in decision making in line with the United Nation’s agreement.
She called on the participants to unite under one entity to achieve the success of the programme towards ensuring rights of women and girls to end violence.
