Parents and guardins have been coutioned to redouble efforts in monitoring movements of their wards towards reducing the menace of sexual and gender based violence in the society.
Bauchi state firstlady’s committee on Sexual And Gender Based Violence gave the advise during a visit to Toro And Dass local government areas of the state .
Speaking during the visit, the Leader of the committee , hajiya Talatu Musa Gar enumerated some of the responsibilities of the committee to the participants of the sensitization program to include , punishing whoever is found guilty of the menace no matter his/her position in and round the state.
She lamented that the state firstlady had provided shelter to those who found themselves in such condition, and also called on the society to perform the role of whistleblowers on anyone found violating the rights of human so as to help government in reducing and eliminating bad eggs from the society.
On his part the legal adviser of the committee Brr. Muhammad Nasir Abdullahi quoted some sections in the book of law which prohibits violence against any person no matter his/her age or gender, and therefore called on youths and leaders ,of both local governments, traditional rulers, imams and pastors to be on the alert and inform any form of violent act to the appropriate Authority, with a view to assisting the committee to achieve its desired goal.
While calling on both local governments, DPO’s mentioned their challenges being faced when it comes to handling rape cases and domestic violence which include Threatening the witnesses , assuring the committee of unflinching efforts to end the menace
Also speaking, medical officers of the two local governments called on the security officers to assist them on bringing the victims of rape to the hospitals before they proceed with their investigations, saying that such will help them in keeping the records of the victim’s situation and also protect them from contracting any disease.
