Clerk to Bauchi Assembly reaffirms commitment to improve staff welfare and capacity building

The Clerk, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Barrister Hauwa Abubakar, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to staff welfare, capacity building and secure post-service benefits.

She disclosed this, during an interactive session on the Contributory Pension Scheme for Assembly staff, held at the Medical and Health Workers Secretariat, Bauchi,

Barrister Hauwa Abubakar said the interactive session was organized by the management of the pension authorities and the state House of Assembly to deepen understanding of the CPS and maximize employees’ pension rights.

The Clerk described the engagement as a strategic initiative aimed at ensuring informed participation by staff in the pension scheme, stressing that, adequate knowledge of the CPS would guarantee financial security after retirement.

She expressed appreciation to the Speaker of the House, Dr. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, for his support, as well as the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for sustaining pension reforms in the state.

In his presentation, the Secretary, Bauchi State Pension Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Inuwa, traced the origin of the contributory Scheme to 2007, noting that, Bauchi State ranks among the best-performing states nationwide in pension administration.

He disclosed that, out of about 77,160 civil servants in the state, 67,000 are eligible for the scheme, with 27,000 already registered, while the state currently caters for about 24,000 pensioners with monthly obligations of approximately ₦1.8 billion.

Alhaji Inuwa emphasized the critical role of the Bauchi State House of Assembly in enacting CPS-related laws and called for further legislative backing for policy documents and standard operating procedures.
