BON holds 81st AGM in Abuja, sets agenda for National Unity and Broadcasting Development

Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria holds its 81st Annual General Meeting in Abuja with a commitment to draw national agenda in the course of Radio and Television broadcasting in Nigeria.

Declaring the AGM open, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idiris Malagwi, said the present government in the country is determined to make information flow a key policy drive for achieving national cohesion.

He commended Radio and Television broadcast stations in the country for their immense contribution in preserving the unity of the country which is a paramount ingredients for national survival.

The Minister urged the broadcast stations under their umbrella of BON to strengthen collaboration with the governments at all levels in the best interest of national development assuring of the federal government’s readiness to ensure the protection of press freedom, human right and due diligence in policies implementation.

Speaking earlier, the outgoing Chairman of BON, Comrade Abdulhamid Dembos, said the organization has continuously exhibited a pragmatic leadership among the key players in the broadcsating business in the country.

Comrade Dembos, who is the Director General of NTA, observed that radio and TV stations are presently operating under multiple challenges looking at the state of economy, and therefore urged the government to do the needful in supporting the stations from such unbearable challenges including funding and infrasturacture deficit.

The 81st AGM is being attended by media executives from across the country.

Bauchi state team at the meeting is being headed by the Commissioner for information and Communication, Usman Usman Shehu.

New leadership of the association is expected to emerge after the scheduled elections billed at the end of the annual general meeting.
