Hon Yakubu Lawi Sumi, Chairman of Bogoro LGA of Bauchi state, has asked mothers to immunise their children against polio.
Speaking at the National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) flag-off in Mwari Primary school Bogoro, he encouraged residents to join the polio vaccination campaign.
Hon Yakubu Lawi Sumi said immunisation safeguards children from polio’s devastating effects including deformity and death.
According to him immunisation is a vital step in boosting the health and immunity of our children in the community.
He appeals to parents, especially mothers, to allow their children to be vaccinated during this period and protect them from polio virus.
The chairman noted that Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, Executive Governor of Bauchi state, is doing everything to protect our children, and “it is our responsibility as parents and caregivers to support this cause”.
Surveyor Lawi commended Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency,World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), all babies are equal and other partners for their interventions in healthcare delivery services in the LGA.
In his welcome address, the Director Primary Health Care Department Bogoro LGA Mr Godwill Hakuri explained that the free, safe, and effective vaccine targets children aged zero to 59 months.
Mr Godwin highlighted its role in preventing poliomyelitis, a deadly disease that can cripple or kill.He urged parents to seize this opportunity to secure their children’s health.
He reiterated that a simple, harmless immunisation could spare children from polio’s lifelong consequences.
He further called on traditional and religious leaders to support health officials in mobilising to ensure success of the vaccination campaign in their various domains.
Also Speaking, the Local Government facilitator officer from World health Organization (WHO) Peter Ignatus called on mothers to take advantage of the exercise to allowed their children to be immunize.
Mr Ignatus expressed his gratitude to the Chairman for support to the health sector at all times.
He further called on parents to report affected children’s to the nearest health care centers for prompt intervention and further necessary action.
In his remarks, the village head of Bogoro Mr Nuhu Tafida represented by Mr Jidauna Gonto, commended Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir Kauran Bauchi for his proactive health initiatives and measures to prevent deadly diseases in children.
He assured the executive Chairman of the traditional ruler’s support inorder to ensure a successful hitch Free immunisation exercise.
