Bogoro LGA Launches Immunisation Drive Targeting Under-Five Children

The Chairman of Bogoro Local Government Area, Yakubu Lawi Sumi, has flagged off the National Immunization Plus Days NIPDs and SARMAAN II campaign, aimed at vaccinating children under the age of five against preventable diseases.

The exercise, launched at Lusa Bakin Kasuwa in Lusa, targets children aged 1–59 months under NIPDs and 0–59 months under the SARMAAN II initiative.

Represented by his deputy, Mulki Markus Masoyi, the chairman underscored the critical role of immunisation in protecting children from life-threatening illnesses, including polio.

He called on parents, caregivers, and community leaders to ensure full participation in the exercise by presenting eligible children for vaccination.

Sumi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and safeguarding the wellbeing of residents, particularly children.

He commended Governor Bala Mohammed, for his sustained support for public health initiatives, and acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers in mobilising communities.

In his remarks, the Director of Primary Health Care in Bogoro, Mr Godwill Hakuri Gidado, said the campaign is designed to reach every child with life-saving vaccines.

Hakuri urged residents to cooperate with health workers, noting that Azithromycin oral suspension will be administered to prevent diseases such as diarrhoea, trachoma, and pneumonia.

He explained that the SARMAAN II initiative, alongside NIPDs, forms part of broader efforts by the government and development partners to strengthen routine immunisation and eradicate polio.

Hakuri added that the flag-off marks the commencement of a widespread immunisation campaign across the local government area, with health teams deployed to communities to ensure maximum coverage.

In a vote of thanks, the District Head of Lusa, Mr Dauda Zabas, pledged support for the exercise, assuring that traditional institutions would mobilise residents to ensure full compliance and address potential challenges during the campaign.
