
Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has announced the reduction in number of out‑of‑school children from more than one point seven million to two hundred and sixteen thousand
The Permanent Secretary SUBEB, Bauchi, Alhaji Abdulhamid Muhammad Jibrin disclosed this in a press briefing held at the Board conference room
He added that, the present administration has restored the education rights for more than one point two million children in the state
According to him, the twenty twenty five twenty twenty six Statewide Enrolment Drive targeting two hundred and twenty thousand new learners had exceeded expectations with two hundred and eighty four thousand enrolments
He noted that, the state government implored a multi‑sectoral, data‑driven approach that includes attendance monitoring, early‑warning systems, and active engagement of traditional rulers, community leaders, and local government areas.
The permanent Sectrary maintained that Toro Local Government Area integrated over thirty five thousand of its fifty thousand out‑of‑school children into formal classrooms.
Alhaji Abdulhamid commended the support of AGILE project at improving the enrolment, retention, and transition for adolescent girls, Construction of Mega, Model and Smart schools and large‑scale rehabilitation and integration of Tsangaya and Qur’anic schools, expanded safe learning spaces.
He added that, despite the gains, the surge of two hundred and eighty four thousand new pupils have strained infrastructure, learning resources and teacher‑pupil ratios
Alhaji Abdulhamid reaffirmed State Government commitment the to institutionalising traditional leaders in the education accountability framework, accelerating the ICT policy for better data management, and establishing a Special Teacher Corps for rural and high‑enrolment communities.
He thanked parents, guardians, traditional rulers, religious leaders, development partners, teachers and education workers for improving education from an access‑deficit system to one anchored on enrolment, retention, smooth transition and community ownership, setting a path toward sustainable educational transformation and inclusive growth.
