Bauchi Speaker Reaffirms Assembly’s Commitment to Strengthening Traditional Institutions

The Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Dr Abubakar Y. Suleiman, has assured traditional institutions in the state of the Assembly’s commitment to providing the necessary legislative support to strengthen their role in promoting peace, security and development.

The Speaker gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly to the Jama’are Emirate Council.

Dr Abubakar Suleiman acknowledged the significant contributions of traditional rulers to peacebuilding and conflict resolution across their respective domains.

He also stressed the need for adequate constitutional and legislative backing to enable them discharge their responsibilities more effectively.

The legislative head urged the Emir and other traditional rulers not to hesitate to bring forward issues requiring legislative intervention, assuring them that the 10th Bauchi State House of Assembly remains committed to enacting laws that would enhance governance and development in the state.

In his remarks, the Emir of Jama’are, Alhaji Nuhu Ahmad Wabi, appealed to the Bauchi State Government to expedite the payment of pensions and gratuities to retired civil servants as part of efforts to reduce the backlog of outstanding entitlements.

The Emir also called on Governor Bala Mohammed to consider the construction of the Jama’are–Azare Road before the expiration of his tenure, describing the project as vital to the socio-economic growth and development of the area.

Earlier, the Chairman of Jama’are Local Government Area, Alhaji Inuwa Abdullahi Moisha, commended Governor Bala Mohammed for upgrading the Jama’are Emirate, noting that the development would strengthen the area’s security architecture and accelerate socio-economic development.

He described the visit by the Speaker and members of the State Assembly as the first of its kind in the history of the emirate and expressed appreciation for the lawmakers’ show of solidarity with the traditional institution.
