Bauchi State House of Assembly has adopted a motion calling on the state government to take immediate and effective measures to enforce the implementation of farmers and herders board law and to address the encroachment of grazing areas and cattle routes in the state.
The Call is contained in a motion moved by the speaker of the house and member Representing Ningi Central constituency Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman during plenary.
The lawmaker in his presentation, said despite the efforts of the state government to bridge the gap between farmers and headers conflict, the proliferation of conflicts between the two groups has become a recurring challenge in Bauchi, resulting to loss of lives, destruction of properties and displacement of communities.
Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman noted that, the effective implementation of farmers and herders board law, coupled with the protection of grazing areas and cattle routes, would significantly reduce conflicts, promote peaceful coexistence and enhance agricultural productivity in Bauchi State.
The Speaker in his prayers, urged the state government to ensure adequate funding and resource allocation for effective functioning of the board and to direct the local government Chairmen to enforce the 7 meters road reserves in thier respective LGAs to prevent encroachment on grazing areas and cattle routes as well as impose sanctions on any person found to be in disobedience of the law and regulations governing grazing areas and cattle routes.
Meanwhile, the member Representing Ganjuwa West at the state House of Assembly Engineer Garba Adamu Kawu has appealed to the state Executive arm to construct a drainage and culvert system leading to the cemetery in Miya town, Ganjuwa local government area.
He said the cemetery in Miya Town serves as a final resting place for the departed, but, absence of a proper drainage system along the road has subjected residents to untold hardship, especially during the rainy season.
Engineer Garba Adamu highlighted that, the situation if left unattended, will continue to affect the welfare of the people of Miya town and its surrounding communities.
He urged the executive arm of government through Bauchi State infrastructure Development and Maintenence Agency to, as a matter of urgency, commence the construction of a drainage and culvert system in Miya town and the house to mandate it committee on works and transport to follow up and ensure implementation of the project.
