
The Bauchi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), in collaboration with the Ministry of Livestock Development, has hosted a presentation on the Azolla plant.
In his remarks, at the opening of the event, held at L-PRES Conference Hall Bauch, .the overseeing Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock Development, Alhaji Yakubu Dahuwa, commended the State Project Coordinator (SPC) for providing a conducive environment for the exercise.
NHe urged the consultant to do justice to the presentation, noting that the topic aligns with the Project Development Objectives of L-PRES.
In a goodwill message, the State Project Coordinator, Alhaji Musa Adamu One, expressed delight that the Ministry has demonstrated leadership qualities by visiting L-PRES for the presentation, describing the session as timely and beneficial to the project’s overall goals.
Delivering the presentation, the consultant, Engr. Adamu Suleiman Magama, explained that Azolla, popularly referred to as “Green Gold”, is a fast-growing, free-floating aquatic fern consumed by various animal species.
He noted that the plant grows on water surfaces and originated from regions such as South Asia, China, Taiwan, and Singapore and highlighted its wide-ranging benefits to agriculture and livestock production, particularly in rice farming and small-animal rearing.
In a closing remark, the Bauchi state Commissioner, Ministry of Livestock Development, Dr. Bala Musa Lukshi, expressed satisfaction with the presentation and its practical relevance. He noted that Azolla offers immense benefits to both humans and animals, including its potential use in food production and mosquito repellence.
