Bauchi Chapter of Parliamentary Staff Association Joins indefinite strike Action over demands for Financial Autonomy for State Legislature.

The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, Bauchi State Chapter, has begun an indefinite strike over demands for financial autonomy for state legislatures.

The state Chairman of PASAN, Comrade Adamu Yusuf said the nation wide strike action followed directives from the national body of the association, stressing that, they decided to shutdown activities of the state assembly until thier needs are met.

He said the goal is to pressure the government to implement financial independence for state assemblies, which they see as crucial for true federalism and parliamentary autonomy.

According to him, the association has conducted strikes at different times to enforce these demands, but, the federal government is not willing to implement the financial autonomy Act.

Comrade Adamu Yusuf added that, in solidarity with the PASAN, striking members are advised not to relent in the struggle for their rights.

The PASAN Chairman said having exhausted all attempts aimed at seeking implementation of the financial autonomy by the federal government, the association has no other option than to direct its members to proceed on the indefinite strike.

He further revealed that, the association has participated in dialogues and negotiations with government bodies to ensure the process moves forward smoothly and effectively.

Comrade Adamu Yusuf therefore appreciated Bauchi state Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for making efforts to grant financial autonomy to the state assembly, a move which he described as crucial for strengthening democracy.
