SUPREME COURT RESERVES JUDGEMENT ON BAUCHI APC APPEAL

BY MUSLIM LAWAL

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in the gubernatorial tussle between former Bauchi State All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Air Marshal Sadeeq Baba Abubakar (retd), and incumbent Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.

Sadique Abubakar and the APC are asking the court to overturn the recent Court of Appeal decision that upheld Mohammed’s election.

During today’s hearing, senior counsel for the APC and its candidate argued that the appellate court overlooked critical issues raised by their client, including alleged non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the election process.

In response, counsel for Governor Bala Mohammed, Mr Chris Uche, SAN, urged the Supreme Court to uphold the appellate court’s decision, arguing that it aligns with sections 148 and 135 of the Electoral Act.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the five-man panel led by Justice John Inyang Okoro announced that the date for the judgment would be communicated to all parties involved in due course.

Meanwhile, Governor Bala Mohammed has expressed optimism that the Supreme Court will rule in his favour.

He spoke with journalists after the court session and urged his supporters to remain law-abiding.
