Chairman State Assembly Committee on works and transport expresses dismay on the slow pace of Miya-Zara-Soro road construction.

Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport has expressed dismay over the incompetence of the contactor handling the 56km Miya-Zara-Soro road in Ganjuwa Local Government areas.

The Chairman of the committee Engineer Hon. Garba Adamu Kawu disclosed this when he other members of the committee to the construction site in continuation of the committee’s oversight visit.

Engineer Garba Kawu explained that Bauchi State Government awarded the contract for the construction of the Miya-Zara-Soro road two years back to care for the comfort of road users and mitigate their sufferings but the construction firm failed to execute the contract accordingly, causing traffic disruption.

The Chairman of the committee advised the company to brace up for the implementation of the awarded road construction with respect to speed and quality of work as well as commitment for the growth and development of the areas.

According to him, the slow pace in the progress of the Miya-Zara-Soro road does not lie in funding but in the execution by the contractor.

Engineer Garba Adamu Kawu who is the member representing Ganjuwa West at the State House of Assembly, noted that during the committee’s tour to other road project sites, it was discovered that some contractors were doing their jobs while based on contractual agreement while some performing below expectations.

He emphasized the need for improved supervision of contractors, advocating that approvals be giving at every phase of the project before contractor is allowed to proceed to the next phase to reduce poor execution.
