BAUCHI STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY EXPRESSES COMMITMENT TO ADDRESS ISSUES FACING CHILREN

Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y. Suleiman has expressed the commitment of the 10th Assembly to address the issues facing children in the state.

He also said, the state assembly will formulate child friendly laws, child representation and legislative oversight to ensure child rights are protected at all times.

The speaker stated this when the representatives of the Bauchi State Children Parliament visited him in his office to mark the 2024 World Children’s Day and carry out legislative proceedings on child welfare, organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund Bauchi Field Office.

Abubakar Sulaiman who vacated his seat for the child speaker to present their demands, said the state assembly had last year domesticated the Child Rights Act and the Violence Against Person Prohibition law in Bauchi.

Responding to the children’s demands, Abubakar Sulaiman pledged the House readiness to discharge its constitutional roles deligently.

Presenting their request to the speaker, the children appealed to the state government to allocate more funds to children in the annual budget, and the provision of vehicles that would be conveying them to schools and ensuring culprits that violated rights, privileges and freedoms of children are punished.
The children who were selected from different government schools across the state, also demanded for free medical services at government hospitals for children under 15 years of age.
