Bauchi Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Investing in Boy Child

The Bauchi State Government has reiterated that investing in the boy child remains a critical milestone toward building stronger families and safer communities in Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Dr. Lydia Haruna Tsammani, stated this during the commemoration of the International Day of the Boy Child held at the DEC Centre in Bauchi.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Talatu Musa, the Commissioner explained that the International Day of the Boy Child was initiated in 2018, while its formal adoption began in 2024.
She said the Day Celebrated annually on May 16, the day is aimed at empowering boys and supporting them in realizing their full potential and human rights.
Dr. Haruna Tsammani reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to the welfare and development of children across the state.
She urged boys to become responsible citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to the growth and progress of Bauchi State.
According to her, the government remains committed to protecting the rights of every Nigerian child and called on all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at safeguarding children’s welfare and dignity.
She also advised children in the state to remain law-abiding, avoid drug abuse, and contribute to building a peaceful and crime-free society.
Delivering a presentation at the event, Dr. Magaji Dafi, a lecturer in the Department of Social Development at Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, said investing in boys would help reduce crime and create positive impacts within families and communities.
Dr. Dafi urged parents to provide proper guidance and mentorship for their sons so they can grow into responsible role models and worthy ambassadors of the nation.
In his sermon on moral values, Islamic scholar Imam Mu’azu Idris Guyaba emphasized the important role of the boy child in nation-building.

He advised boys to avoid bad peer groups and excessive use of mobile phones and social media except for educational purposes.
Also speaking at the event, Christian cleric Pastor Isaac Paul stressed the importance of the fear of God in raising responsible members of society.
