BAUCHI ASSEMBLY REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO GOOD GOVERNANCE

Bauchi State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability through continuous capacity building.

A delegation of the Assembly’s Committee on Budget and Appropriation, led by the Speaker, Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, is currently in the United Kingdom for a professional development programme on global best practices in budget management.

Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman said the training, taking place at Leeds Trinity University, is designed to equip lawmakers with modern skills and innovative approaches for effective budgeting, prudent management of public funds, and transparent project implementation.

On arrival, the delegation was warmly received by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Charles Egbu, and taken on a familiarization tour of the campus by Emma Malcolm.

During interactive sessions, participants were exposed to key areas including budget planning, performance management, audit processes, and accountability mechanisms under both centralized and localized governance systems.

A major highlight of the engagement was a discussion between the Speaker and Dr. Satish Sharma, a Fintech expert, alongside his postgraduate students, on the development of digital applications that can analyze, monitor, and track government budgets from approval to execution.

The lawmakers also paid a visit to Leeds Civic Hall, where they exchanged ideas with Councillor Dan Cohen, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, in a move that underscores the Assembly’s commitment to adopting technology-driven legislative practices.

As preparations for the presentation of the 2026 budget intensify, the study visit is expected to further strengthen the Assembly’s capacity to deliver timely, transparent, and people-oriented fiscal oversight.
