
Bauchi State House of Assembly has passed into law, a bill that established Bauchi State Hisbah Board 2024.
The house made the resolution after the report of the house committee on Religious affairs presented the bill for legislative consideration.
The Chairman of the committee, Abubakar Adamu Salihu represented by his deputy Barrister Habibu Umar of Kirfi constituency said the bill before passing into, the religious affairs committee held in interactive sessions with stakeholders in the ministry of religious affairs and other religious bodies within and outside the state to gather opinions, inputs and concerns regarding the bill.
He noted that the Hisbah Board was shall be responsible for policy making, disciplinary matters and establishing training schools for personnel and will have the authority to investigate and discipline its staff in accordance with public service rules.
Barrister Habibu Umar added that, Board was established to complement the state security apparatus by preventing, detecting and reporting crimes under Islamic law.
The lawmaker further said the established Bauchi State Hisbah Board shall facilitate peaceful coexistence by resolving disputes among individuals, groups and communities and oversee and monitor the activities of Zauren Sulhu across the state.
Barrister Habibu Umar also highlighted that the Hisbah Board will be authorized to arrange marriages between consenting partners and provide support to new converts to Islam and monitor compliance with Shari,a provisions in Bauchi State.
Meanwhile, the member representing Udubo constituency in Gamawa Local Government area Lele Ahmed Muhammad has during the plenary, called on the state government to construct a road from Zindiwa-Tarmasuwa in Udubo to Dambam Town.
He said the road linking Zindiwa-Tarmasuwa is a strategic economic lifeline that connects several communities across the Udubo and Dambam axis.
According to him, during the rainy season, the road becomes almost impassable, forcing farmers to incur huge losses, adding that produce gets spoiled while some cannot reach the markets in good time while pregnant women and the sick find it difficult to access health facilities.
