Hundreds converge in Damaturu for National Qur’anic Recitation Competition

About five hundred contingents from the thirty six states including Abuja have converged on Yobe to participate in the 38th edition of the National Quranic Recitation Competition with a call on them to abide by the rules of MUSABAKA.

Vice Chancellor Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto Professor Lawal Sulaiman Bilbis who gave the charge said the Glorious Qur’an has lots of bounties associated with it.

He called on Muslims especially the younger ones to uphold the Glorious Qur’an in order to live a fulfilled life.

Professor Lawal Bilbis while tracing the background of the competition said it wasstarted in 1983 with the aim of mobilizing the younger ones to memorize and read the Glorious Qur’an perfectly as well as Instilling Islamic norms and values in the minds of the younger ones.

He used the platform to call on Yobe state government to provide the National Musabaka center with vehicle saying that the only existing vehicle was the donation from the former Bauchi State Governor Ahmad Adamu Muazu

Also Speaking the sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar who was represented by the Shehu of Borno Alhaji Umar Garbai Elkanemi called for peace and unity among Nigerians .

In a remark Professor Abubakar Okene who is the guest speaker called on those who memorise the Glorious Qur’an to practicalise what they have learnt.

Declaring the event open, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni restated his administration’s commitment towards providing and improving education of the younger ones .

Alhaji Mai Mala Buni explained that measures have been put in place to constitute Hisbah Commission in the state with the aim of addressing ill vices among the youth.

The competition is expected to fully kick of tomorrow Saturday.
