Wildlife Conservation Society celebrates World Elephant Day at Tonllong Gaji Gamu Village.

Yankari games reserve neighboring communities have been charged to support relevance stakeholders towards protecting the endowed wildlife in the park.

The Education manager of wildlife conservation society A’isha Babagana gave the charge during the world Elephants day celebration,held at Tonllong Gaji gamu village area of Alkaleri local government council.

A’isha Babagana said the United Nations has set aside twelve of August every year to enlighten the public on the importance of elephants in the world Eco system.

The Education manager also expressed her concerns over the attitude of some people that are hunting the elephants which become threats to their existence.

She also commended the Yankari neighboring communities for the support and cooperation given to them towards protecting the wildlife in the area and called on them to maintained the spirit.

Aisha said before the coming of WCS into the area, there is misunderstanding between the community and elephants but due to the proper enlightenment campaign conducted by the organisation now the problems have been reduced.

Responding on behalf of communities leaders, the Hamlet head of Tonllong Gaji gamu village Sani Adamu thanked the WCS for the support given to them and assured their readiness towards achieving the desired goals.

The traditional rulers also appealed to governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to consider the native sons of the area while employing new staff at Yankari games reserve.
