NON GOVERMENTAL ORGANISATIONS ENGAGE JOURNALISTS ON REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS OF ADOLESCENT GIRLS

 

 

A non-governmental organization, LEADTOTS Development Initiative in partnership with Women Child Youth Health and Education Initiative WCY has organized a one day media engagement on sexual reproductive health and right for adolescent girls to twenty selected journalists in the state.

The Project , funded by Global Affairs Canada through Plan International Nigeria with the theme: Amplify the message, educate, inform and inspire action on sexual and reproductive health, held at the state NUJ Secretariat, Bauchi.

Speaking during the engagement, the Facilitator of the Program, Kamal Bello explained that the aim of the project is to improve access to sexual and reproductive health education for adolescent girls, young women and vulnerable groups in Bauchi State.

He also highlighted some LEADTOTS Development Initiative activities which include: to strengthening sick-Bays in schools, strengthening Pad Banks in for Formal and non- Formal schools, establishing disposable pad incubation centers in three senatorial zones of the Bauchi State.

Others are, strengthening learning centers for pregnant adolescents and young women, free medical services for indigent adolescents among many others.

Kamal Bello however commended the state government for considering the violence against person’s prohibition law and child right law.

Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Director, WCY/LEADTOTS Development Initiative, Mr Nicholas Oshojah Afeso, said the media engagement is aim to bring lasting solutions to the problems affecting adolescents girls on sexual and reproductive health in schools and communities.

He noted that media plays a critical role in shaping public perception and influencing policy decisions, adding that without media they cannot achieve the desired objectives.

In their goodwill messages, The State NUJ Chairman Comrade Umar Sa’idu and NAWOJ Chairperson Rashida Yusuf, appreciated the the LEADTOTS Development Initiative for the collaboration and assured them that Bauchi NUJ is ever ready to work in synergy by promoting meaningful ideas for the development of the organization for the benefit of the people of the state.
