A non GOVERMENTAL ORGANISATION, BudgIT has successfully organized a one-day town hall meeting aimed at raising awareness about the Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy and Action Plan of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

MUMSA Initiative participated in the event through invitation and encouraged people to participate, while their CEO spoke at the event on the topic of the role of citizens and what to do as a citizen to participate in non-political and political aspects.

The event, held at Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Technology in Ningi, brought together key stakeholders from across the local government area, including government officials, traditional leaders, healthcare professionals, and community representatives. The town hall meeting was convened to educate stakeholders on the objectives, benefits, and implementation strategies of the National Women’s Economic Empowerment program (WEE).

As a government-driven initiative, WEE is designed to improve emergency economic responses for women, ensure timely empowerment interventions, and enhance access to life-saving services for communities, particularly in rural areas. During the event, economics experts, policymakers, and non-governmental organization representatives provided in-depth explanations about how WEE will function, the role of local authorities in its execution, and the expected impact on economic empowerment, as well as increasing women’s access to land, finance, and agricultural inputs in the region.

In his presentation, Bauchi State Project Officer Tracker Ahmed Dauda explained that Women’s Economic Empowerment in Nigeria aims to reduce gender inequality in accessing economic opportunities and resources, supporting women’s participation in the economy to drive national growth. He also emphasized that women must undergo entrepreneurship training, support women-owned businesses with training, and explore ways to access capital in various industries and political leadership roles.
In his lecture, the Founder and Executive Director of MUMSA INITIATIVES, Amb. Sulaiman Ashiru, stressed the need for participants, especially women, to involve themselves in gender-responsive policies and strategies and to implement policies and strategies that consider gender impact, provide childcare, and offer necessary support to enable women to work.

The session also included an interactive discussion where participants shared concerns, asked questions, and explored ways to collaborate in making the program a success. Speaking at the event, Mal. Sulaiman Zakariya emphasized that the implementation of the WEE program aligns with the state and federal government’s vision of strengthening women’s involvement in all key areas, particularly in providing swift emergency economic responses to those in need,
He also expressed commitment to supporting the initiative, recognizing its potential to save lives and improve economic outcomes while reducing government dependence.

The meeting concluded with a call to action, urging community leaders, health workers, and local government officials to actively participate in spreading awareness about WEE and ensuring its successful implementation within the local government area, state, and nation at large.

This engagement marks a significant step towards improving gender equality and rapid response to economic development in Ningi and beyond, reinforcing the collective effort required to achieve better economic outcomes for all citizens.
