LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN. CALLS FOR EFFORTS TOWARDS STRENGTHENING THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR

 

 

The Executive Chairman of Warji Local Government Area, Alhaji. Aminu Barmini, has called on Local Government Chairmen in Bauchi State to intensify efforts in advancing the agricultural sector to enhance food security and combat malnutrition.

He made the call during a meeting on grassroots nutrition financing, organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Bauchi Field Office.

Alhaji Barmini emphasized the need for urgent action, noting that malnutrition remains a critical issue in various LGAs across the state, despite the prevailing economic hardship in Nigeria. He stressed that the well-being of children, who are the future leaders, must be prioritized.

Commending UNICEF for its multisectoral interventions in improving children’s lives, Barmini pledged his commitment to complement the organization’s efforts. He highlighted Warji LGA’s vast agricultural potential, which includes the cultivation of rice, cassava, millet, guinea corn, soybeans, sesame, sugarcane, and vegetables, among others.

He urged his fellow chairmen to engage stakeholders in implementing nutrition policies that would benefit younger generations and contribute to a healthier Bauchi State.

The chairman. also acknowledged the continuous support of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad’s administration in developing key sectors such as health, agriculture, and education, as well as its social investment programs aimed at improving livelihoods.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Adamu Faggo, assured collaboration with the LG Chairmen to address multidimensional poverty across the state.

He urged them to change the negative narrative surrounding nutrition, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to upholding children’s rights and ensuring their well-being.
