Engineering Experts encourages female students to study related courses.
Government, Non-governmental Organizations, Philanthropists and Corporate Organizations have been urged to provide incentives in form of Scholarship to encourage Girl child study engineering related Courses in tertiary institutions.
Students of Government Girls College Kafin Madaki in Ganjuwa local government area made the call at a one day Sensitization Workshop on Career Talk organised by the Royal Academy of Engineering in conjunction with University of Abuja Higher Education Partnership Sub-saharan Africa, Bauchi chapter.
Some of the students, Nusaiba Sulaiman Abdullahi and Hauwa’u Adamu Hassan said the society portrays engineering courses as a male related, hence the need for stakeholders to come in and change the the negative mindset by encouraging the girl child to develop interest in the field.
They promised to use the knowledge and ideas shared by the engineering experts to develop skills that would help them become future engineers.
Earlier, a Lecturer with the Department of Mechanical Engineering Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ATBU, Bauchi Professor Aje Token said the workshop was organised to encourage girls to choose engineering courses after completing their Secondary School with a view to revamping the economic architecture of the country.
Professor Aje Token who said Nigerian Universities like ATBU were working towards addressing the challenges affecting female science students, called on parents and guardians to encourage their female children to study engineering courses in the future.
Guest Speaker at the occasion, Engineer Jamila Adamu from Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, stressed the importance of engineering courses to everyday life and assured to support female students willing to study engineering at all levels.
In a remark, the Principal Government Girls College Kafin Madaki, Hajiya Jamila Mohammad Koko appreciated the effort of the organisers for choosing the school to benefit from the Career talk.
The Workshop with the theme; Choosing Engineering As a Career Profession For Girls, was aimed at supporting the education of the girl child especially in the field of Mechanical Engineering towards reshaping their future and better society.
