UNICEF applauded for introducing Climate Change education into School Curriculum to catch them young

Dr Mahmood Muhammad a lecturer with the department of Agriculture Aminu Sale College of education Azare, made this observation shortly after the Inter School Quiz competition organized for some Government Schools by UNICEF in Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government are, in commemoration of World Children’s Day.
Dr Mahmood, said climate change has negative effect on the Health of people through air pollution, desert encroachment, flooding and affect the environment as well.
The agricultural expert, applauded UNICEF for introducing the climate change education into some schools’ curriculum to catch the children young, which will fight against global warming in the future.
He said, children have greater role to play in Tree planting towards saving the lives of Community members and ensuring healthy environment.
Dr Mahmood, urged the Authority in education sector to emulate UNICEF by incorporating climate change education into the curriculum of Primary and secondary Schools in Bauchi State.
Dr Mahmood emphasized on deforestation as the major cause of climate change, were trees are being cut down without replacement, and called on people of the state to imbibe the culture of afforestation to combat the menace.
He encouraged the formation of Young Farmers clubs in schools, for the establishment of gardens by children in schools and at homes.
Dr Mahmood added that, the climate change is a global phenomena that affect humans, environment and animals, hence the need for collaborative effort to fight the effect with the children.
He also called on UNICEF to extend the programme of climate change education beyond UNICEF focused schools for the betterment of all in Bauchi State.
In her remarks, Hajiya Balkisu Isah the State Universal Basic Education UNICEF facilitator, advised children to give climate change education all serious it deserve to make Bauchi State free state climate change disaster.
She assured the children that UNICEF care for them in ensuring their dreams come true.
To commemorate this year’s World Children’s Day, Bauchi UNICEF Field Office, organized Inter School Quiz competition on Climate change between Government Day Junior Secondary School Yana, Government Junior Secondary School Katagum of Zaki Local Government Area and Government Junior Secondary School Unguwar Hadejawa of Shira Local Government, which at the end of the quiz, Government Junior Secondary School Unguwar Hadejawa Shira emerged winner of the quiz.
