BAUCHI STATE POLICE COMMAND UPHOLDS COURT ORDER. TO BAN 2024 ZAAR. FESTIVAL
Following the state High Court’s restraining order to ban the conduct of the 2024 zaar festival, the Bauchi State Police Command has announced its suspension originally scheduled for November 2, 2024,.
A statement by the Police public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, indicates that, the decision followed an earlier suspension announced on September 27, 2024.
The statement therefore emphasised that the organizers of the festival, along with any individuals involved, are prohibited from conducting any related processions in Tafawa Balewa, and Bogoro Local Government Areas, or any other location, until a definitive court ruling is rendered.
While assuring that it values the cultural significance of such festivals and remains committed to facilitating opportunities for celebration that does not compromise public safety, the command reiterated that it is actively engaging with all stakeholders to explore alternative ways to honour the traditions constructively.
The State Police Command also reiterated the importance of adhering to the court order and ensuring peace in the community, and encouraged parents, guardians, and community leaders to guard their wards towards positive engagement and discourage any actions that could lead to unrest.
It appreciated the public’s cooperation and understanding towards protecting lives and property of citizens .
