FROM THE NEWS DESK.

Bauchi State Government is set to sanitize it’s workers payroll for transparency and efficiency within the State Civil Service.

The initiative will involve a comprehensive digital system upgrade, aims to eliminate issues of ghost workers and discrepancies in salary payments.

The State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu Haruna, in a discussion on a road map of the project at a high-level meeting convened with relevant Stakeholders, emphasized government’s commitment to using digital tools to streamline the payroll process.

He said exercise is aimed to capture and automate personnel data and ensuring that the nominal rolls drive with the payroll system.

According to him, the meeting highlighted the mechanisms that will be put in place for the smooth execution of this laudable initiative which included the creation of 25 dedicated Centers across the State to facilitate the data collection and verification process.

Alhaji Yahuza Adamu revealed that the centers will be accessible to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the State and will be managed by the ICT Personnels, trained to manage the new system under the supervision of the Civil Service Commission and the Office of the Head of Civil Service.

He further said, a comprehensive data on all Civil Servants will be captured, including their personal and employment details, biometric information, and other relevant documents.

The Chairman of the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Usman during the meeting, applauded the state government’s decision to take this bold step of digitalization.

He expressed optimism that the exercise would address longstanding issues within the payroll system, particularly the problem of ghost workers, which has been draining the State’s financial resources.

According to Alhaji Abubakar, the Commission had previously operated largely on manual systems and the introduction of digital payroll system marks a transition to a more secure and transparent way of managing the State’s workforce.

Alhaji Abubakar Usman remarked that the initiative will cover all Bauchi State Government Employees to generate accurate, reliable and acceptable data with the exception of Sa’ad Zungur University Gadau, which operates its payroll separately.
