BAHA Finance committee vows to promote Accountability and transparency for good governance.

Bauchi State House of Assembly’s Committee on Finance and Economic Development has been committed toward fostering synergy with Local Government Councils to promote transparency and accountability in governance.
This was disclosed by the chairman of the committee during it’s recent familiarization visit to four local government areas of Katagum, Jama’are, Shira and Giade.
During the visit, Burra emphasized that the committee’s focus is not to witch shunt any staff of the councils but rather on acquiring firsthand knowledge of financial activities at the grassroots level.
He explained to the councils that the primary goal of their visit was to ensure that government financial activities at local government councils level align with the laws and regulations of the state as well as properly implemented with the needs of the people.
Speaking during the visit, the chairman Katagum local Government Yusuf Babayo Zaki said the visit is timely as the council’s primary responsibility is to have an open door policy towards addressing challenges at the local level, stressed the need for collaboration with the committee to achieve the desired objectives.
On their separate remarks, the chairman Jama’are local government Inuwa Abdullahi and his shira counterpart Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli commended the committee for the oversight function to assess various local governments and their financial operations, adding that there is a smooth relationship between the local council and the legislature.
In each of the local governments visited, the committee engaged with local council officials, asking them to provide comprehensive financial records and information on the progress of various ways of their internally generated revenue aimed at understanding both the achievements and challenges faced by the councils in implementing government directives.
