BAHA committee on Education, Stakeholders met USAID, strategized on educational development, oversight
The State House of Assembly Committee on Education alongside some stakeholders in education have held a special meeting with the Director, Education Division, United States Agency for International Development Mission in Abuja to strategize on educational development in the State and oversight functions.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee Dr. Nasiru Ahmed Ala affirmed the commitment of the 10th Assembly to the development of education in the State.
He assured the USAID and its LEARN to Read Project team that as representatives of the people they are ready to provide them with legislative support they may require for the project to succeed in the State.
Dr. Ala however requested the USAID and its LEARN to Read Project to support the State House of Assembly to develop a checklist that will be use in monitoring the activities of Basic Education and Ministry of Education during oversight functions.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner Ministry of Budget and Planning, Alhaji Aminu Hammayo stated that the executive arm of government has primary role to discharge its responsibilities, saying the Government will make commitment with regards to Mutual Accountability Account which is imperative for its relevance and sustainability, assuring that it will be taken to the level of State Executive Council and facilitate its approval.
Also speaking, the Emir of Bauchi, represented by the Dan-Kaden Bauchi, Alhaji Aminu Yakubu Mahmud pledged to support advocacy to engage parents after conveying all the messages to the Emir who happened to be the Chairman Education Steering committee in the State, saying the Emir is passionate about education at the foundation level and interested to see every child in the States is nurtured with literacy and numeracy skills.
In their response, the Office Director, USAID Education Mission, Jana Wooden and her Deputy, Mariam Britel-Swift appreciated the calibre of people gathered and the type of skills they possessed.
While lamenting that the system of education in Nigeria is not easy with the number of States and expectations, they promised to strengthen the relationship with Bauchi State to address its problems and help in achieving its educational goals and development.
