ASHH Foundation Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting Women and Children

The Attah Sisters Helping Hand Foundation (ASHH) has reiterated its commitment to advocating for the protection of women and children to foster a peaceful and supportive living environment in Bauchi State.

The Executive Director of ASHH Foundation, Mrs. Comfort Attah, made this pledge during a two-day capacity-building workshop themed “Accelerate Action,” in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2025, held at Executive Nest Hotel, Bauchi.

Mrs. Attah emphasized that the foundation’s mission is to promote the welfare of women, widows, youths, and caregivers by improving their living conditions and protecting their rights.

She noted that ASHH Foundation has been instrumental in pushing for legislative reforms to safeguard women and children in Bauchi state.

The Executive Director, called on workshop participants to unite in addressing gender-based violence and promoting gender equality, stressing that sexual harassment remains a pressing issue, particularly in formal sectors.

Mrs Attah, urged organisations and institutions to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment and violence against women.

In her presentation on women’s rights and legal protections, Barrister Yachit Dala highlighted that both international and national laws guarantee fundamental rights for women, including equal protection, freedom from discrimination, and equal leadership opportunities in politics, economics, and public life.

Barrister Dala pointed out several harmful practices prevalent in Bauchi State, such as forced marriages, denial of inheritance rights, sexual harassment in educational and formal sectors, domestic violence, and harmful traditional practices like female genital mutilation.

She explained that deeply rooted cultural and traditional beliefs pose significant challenges to implementing women’s rights.

In his presentation on gender-responsive policies, Dr. Isaac Crown, referenced the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, affirming that all people are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

He called on stakeholders to support women in realizing their full potential by nurturing their ambitions, talents, and interests.

Dr. Crown stressed that societal progress hinges on prioritizing the needs of the people over personal interests, urging collective action to reshape societal attitudes and policies for a more just and equitable future.

Dr. Crown urged all sectors of society to work together to eliminate gender-based violence, uphold women’s rights, and create an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.
