Bauchi state government directed illegal settlers in Lame Bura Game Reserve to vacate the land for peaceful coexistence in the state in the wake of settlement of some unknown dwellers around the forest.
The state Commissioner, Ministry of Culture and Tourism Alhaji Abdul Hassan,who also serves as the chairman of a High power committee on deforestation of Lame Bura Game Reserve for security and improved agricultural activities ,gave the directive during an oversight tour at the District head palace of Lame, Toro Local Goverment Area.
He said the committee is saddle with the responsibilities of preventing deforestation and illegal acts within Lame Bura forest compound aim at ensuring security to avert the state from the activities of bad eggs who flee from other parts of the country.
Alhaji Abdul Hassan stated that traditional titleholders in the area at the grass root are the key stakeholders who receive foreigners and other unknown individuals within their domain saying governor Bala Mohammed did not take the issue lightly through establishment of the committee as a step to tackle the menace.
The Commissioner also warned that government will not allow any individual to jeopardize the long existing peace enjoyed by citizens of the state , hence the need for illegal settlers to vacate the land within two weeks or face the full quensequences.
In their separate remarks, the Permanent Secretary, ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Liyatu M Gayus and the Acting Permanent Secretary ministry of Justice Haj. Sha’awanatu Yusuf expressed concern over low turn out to the meeting by stakeholders , and called on the traditional titleholders in the area to always heed to government policies for the development of the state.
Also speaking, the representative of Toro Local Government Chairman, Pharmacist Ibrahim Abubakar Dembo assured his commitment to support government policies within their capacity to achieve the desired objectives.
In his contribution, the District head of Bura who is also a member of the committee, Alhaji. Yau Shehu Abubakar, charged the traditional rulers at the grass roots to mobilize their wards and announce the vacation order before two weeks as directed by the committee chairman.
