State Committee on Sexual and Gender Base violence visits Gamawa and Zaki Local Governments

In continuation of its Sensitization to Stakeholders on sexual and Gender Based Violence Violence in twenty local Government Areas of the state, the Bauchi State Action committee on sexual and Gender Based violence has visited Gamawa, Zaki and Giade local Government Areas.
Speaking during the Sensitization visit, the leader of the group who is the Secretary of the committee, Hajiya Talatu Musa Gar said the committee was established in twenty twenty under the leadership of Bauchi State First lady to tackle the menace in the society.
She therefore urged parents and guidiance to redouble their efforts in monitoring the situation and movements of their wards so as to reduce the menace of sexual and gender based violence in the state.
The Leader of the committee mentioned some of the responsibilities of the committee to the participants of the sensitization programme to include among others, punishing whoever found guilty on the issues of SGBV no matter his/her position in and round the state.
She highlighted that, the state first lady has provided shelter to the victims of GBV and called on members of the society to be whistleblowers on anyone found violating the rights of humans so as to help government in reducing and eliminating the bad eggs in the society.
On his part, the legal adviser of the committee Brr. Muhammad Nasir Abdullahi quoted some sections in the book of law which prohibits violence against any person no matter his/her age or gender.
He therefore called on the youth leaders of both local governments, traditional rulers, Imams and pastors to be on alarm and inform any form of violence to the appropriate center, saying that such will help the committee achieve its desired goal.
Responding, the DPO’s of the local governments so far visited by the committee, said rapes cases have become serious proble and assured the committee of doing their best to reduce the menace.
On the medical prospective, both the medical officers of the three local governments called on the security officers to assist them on bringing the victims of rape to the hospitals before they proceed with their investigations, saying that such will help them in keeping the records of the victims situation and also protect them from contracting diseases.
In their separate Remarks, the wives of the Gamawa and Giade local Government chairmen Hajiya shema’u Madaki Gwalolo and Hauwa’u Usman Sale thanked the first lady for the initiative and commended the efforts of the committee.
Hajiya Shema’u Madaki Gwalolo and Hauwa’u Usman Sale called on the state first lady to support them on sensitizing the youth on the danger of Drugs Abuse.
In their goodwill messages, the District Heads of Gamawa and Zaki advised parents to discharge their parental roles by ensuring that their children and wards receive sound education.
